Washington signed off their 2020 with a bang, beating Doxford Park 8-2.

Washington started the game excellently but could not find an opening until the 30th minute, when Alex Gudgeon found himself on the edge of the box, finishing low to the keepers left into the corner of the net.

Soon Washington got a second with a good bit of play down the left.

Lewis Charlton found himself in the box after beating his man with pace and fired a shot at the keeper doubling their lead!

Washington made seven substitutions at the break.

The second half began and within 5 minutes Doxford Park pulled back a goal to make it 2-1.

Soon after our opposition broke through again to make it 2-2, with Washington briefly losing their concentration.

Cameron Thompson rallied the players and made a few more substitutions.

Washington turned more attacking and in the 60th minute they regained their lead.

A trialist played a good ball through to Dawson and he slotted the ball under Doxford’s keeper to make it 3-2.

Instantly from kick off, Washington picked the ball up in their own half.

Captain and makeshift right back, Jordan Lee, made a superb run in behind the defence and finished beautifully into the top left corner to extend our lead back to 2 goals.

Not long after, a corner was delivered in from the right and Ben Lowrie was in the right place at the right time after a goal mouth scramble.

The defender converted his chance into the bottom right corner to make it 5-2 to Washington.

With Washington now in the ascendancy, they pushed for another.

In the 75th minute, Stephen Ord made a great run down the left after a delightful ball into his feet, finishing expertly past the helpless keeper to give Washington their 6th.

Our trialist grabbed another after his shot slid underneath the keeper in the 85th minute to make it 7-2.

In the 90th minute Washington managed to take advantage of a penalty, given away by a Doxford Park defender after bringing down Washington player, Charlton.

The winger dusted himself down before converting the penalty, sending the keeper the opposite way, with the last kick of the game!

Full Time: 8-2
