Washington United have managed to boost their defence with the signing of well-experienced wing-back, Peter Henderson.

The 33-year-old has managed to play for numerous clubs around the Northern and Wearside Leagues including Hebburn Town, South Shields, Birtley town, Esh Winning, Seaham Red Star, Bedlington Terriers, Washington FC and Durham AFC.

We managed to sit-down with Henderson as he was preparing for this weeks fixture away against Gateshead Leam Rangers:

Washington: How does it feel to join Washington?

Henderson: It feels good to be joining an ambitious team. I know a few of the lads already and I have been impressed with what they have had to say.

Washington: What do you think of the setup and the start to the season?

Henderson: I went along to training last week and I was impressed with the intensity and input. I'm yet to experience a match day set-up so I'll let you know when I'm fit for it.

Washington: Whats your aims for the season?

Henderson: My aims personally are to help Washington finish in the top 6 of the league and become a stable solid team.

Henderson: Anything can happen in a season and if you do go on a run you will find yourself challenging for more. You need to be realistic though.

Washington: We are still yet to play at home, are you excited to get underway at home?

Henderson: Yes, I'm looking forward to playing back at Nissan. I played here for a season with Washington AFC in the Northern League and the facilities are second to none.

Manager, Cameron Thompson, was keen to show his delight in signing Henderson: "Delighted to have secured the signing of Peter.

"He’s been around these leagues for years and has exactly the type of experience we need to guide us up the league. I’m excited for him to get going."

Henderson may feature in our fixture this weekend away to Gateahead Leam Rangers on Saturday 10th October. KO is at 2:30PM
