The Blues faced a strong Shotton team on Saturday; the opposition sitting 2nd from top in the table.
We had no substitutes to call on to try and changes the pattern of play which saw the Blues struggle to get out of our own half for most of the game.
Many goals flew in but, to their huge credit, the kids never stopped trying to play football and ran their hearts out. Shotton proved too physical and were able to keep their players fresh through substitutions.
Coaches noticed that the team have not yet developed the ability to realise that if a system of play is not working then they are free to try something new. However, it must also be noted that it is the Coach's responsibility to ensure the kids are aware of this.
Positives can be taken from this defeat though. Finlay proved that he is a good 'keeper who dominated his box. Jake showed that he is as capable of playing well outfield as well as between the sticks; receiving the "excellent contribution" medal as a result. Max showed signs of the Gladiator within from the last two years. Harry held his position well and, when he had the opportunity, was a good attacking force. Nathan displayed great hold up play at times, shielding the ball before laying off a pass. Beth let her feet do the talking with a couple of dancing runs down the line and Finn was an absolute powerhouse of effort and skill throughout, deservedly taking home the "player of the game" award.
Onwards and upwards!
Come on Blues!
