Washington United are set to face Northern League Division Two side, Brandon United FC in a behind-closed-doors friendly.

The game will be held behind closed doors so unfortunately no fans will be in attendance.

This match comes as a bit of good news for the manager and the team however, after the Wearside League has suspended fixtures briefly due to COVID-19.

On the match, manager Cameron Thompson said: "Absolutely gutted, it is hard to pick up any momentum, but we are trying to turn the negatives into a positive and make the most of the break mid season.

"The lads character has been outstanding.

"They are using the four weeks to improve and come back a better player and a team. It is going really well."

Unfortunately fans will not be able to attend in what is sure to be an exciting and tough fixture for Washington.

When talking about the match, Thompson said: "To play against any higher ranked oppositon, it is a fantastic occasion and test, no matter the competition.

"I expect it to be a good game against a decent Northern League side.

"I am looking forward to getting the lads some minutes and putting to test some of the things we have been working on in training."

Washington are now without a league fixture until January, meaning manager Cameron Thompson is looking to find friendly fixtures for the team.

On the topic of having such a break in the festive period, Thompson said:

"It is unusual to get a break last this so we are taking it as a positive and working on things we would not usually get the chance to work on at this stage in the season."

With this being a friendly fixture, there as has been speculation of squad rotation.

On this, Thompson said: "I would not expect too much... we are treating each game like a league game to keep some momentum going.

"We will be looking to play our strongest team in every game."

Washington United face Brandon United FC at 2pm tomorrow.
