Match Preview | Coxhoe Athletic (a)

#UnitingWashington

With a massive three points secured in last week's home tie against West Auckland Tunns, Washy come into today's match against Coxhoe Athletic with the opportunity to make it back-to-back wins against the teams at the foot of the table; a result that would go some way to ensuring there is enough distance between United and that business end of the league.

The Opposition

Coxhoe are rooted to the bottom of the Wearside League, where they have remained virtually all season. The statistics reflect a very difficult campaign for Athletic: they've scored the least goals of any team in the division, conceded the most, racked up the fewest wins and sustained the most losses.

Their recent form, predictably, shows a steady stream of losses. However, Coxhoe have picked up 2 of their 3 wins this season in recent times, against relegation-threatened Darlington RA and managerless Shotton Colliery.

With other winnable games coming up for them (against the likes of out-of-form Richmond Town and Farringdon Detached) Coxhoe will be aiming to turn the tide with some decent results, Washy must ensure that our desire to get three points in the bag is stronger.

Team News

Unavailable for the Washy today are James Chapman, Rhys Hood, Fergus Hawes, Callum Liddle and Sotirios Kyriakou. Mark Parvin, Lewis Giblin, Brandon Ward and Aidan West are all available for selection.

Returning striker Geroge Pinder is permitted to play today and will be looking to pick up where he left off against Tunns. Midfielder Jay Lumsden and defensive stalwart Kallum Warne are also expected to have the opportunity to continue their good stretch of form.

Around the Grounds

Twelve other Wearside League teams will take to the field of play this afternoon. Those of a Washy or Coxhoe persuasion will undoubtedly have half an eye on the West Auckland Tunns game, as they take on Darlington RA at home in another big battle at the bottom. The fixture list in its entirely is as follows:

Wolvison v Shildon AFC Reserves
Darlington Town v Shotton Colliery
Farringdon Detached v Chester-le-Street United
Silksworth CW v FC Hartlepool
West Auckland Tunns v Darlington RA
Windscale v Durham Corinthians
