Match Preview | Shildon AFC Reserves (h)

#UnitingWashington

Washington United are finally back at the Nissan this afternoon, as they take on a Shildon AFC Reserves side who they held to a 1-1 draw at Dean Street only a month ago. Washy come into this game off the back of an entertaining 3-3 draw with Farringdon Detached, and will be looking to carry that momentum towards another positive result.

The Opposition

Shildon Reserves have done a decent job of picking up points against those around them, recently holding both ourselves and Richmond Town to 1-1 draws while beating Norton and Stockton 2-1. Their two most recent fixtures, however, have ended in defeat at the hands of formidable opposition in Durham Corinthians and Chester-le-Street United.

The visitors’ biggest asset going into this encounter is surely their defence. Shildon have been sturdy at the back this season, conceding 51 goals so far this campaign - 10 less than last week’s opposition Farringdon Detached, who are six places higher in the league.

However, their lack of firepower is where they falter; having netted just 29 times in the league, their goal output is the third lowest in the competition.

Team News

Manager Cam Thompson has plenty of players to choose from, including the likes of Cypriot forward Sotirios Kyriakou, who last week once again found himself on the scoresheet since joining the club!

Unfortunately, young centre-back Chris Rochelle will miss tomorrow’s match with an injury, as will Aidan West. Josh Moody, Rhys Hood and Fergus Hawes are all unavailable for other reasons.

Matchday Info

For those who haven’t been before, Washy play their home games at the Nissan Sports Club (SR5 3NS). Entry is £3 for adults with £1 concessions and you can pay either by cash or by card.

Hot and cold food is available from the kiosk by the pitch throughout the game, while the bar in the upstairs function room will be open if you fancy a drink.

We haven’t got too many home games left, so if you can get yourself down there and get behind our lads on our own turf, it would be immensely appreciated. Up the Washy!
