Roper, who made 7 appearances for Silksworth in the 2020/21 campaign has made the move to Washington. Jay Previously played under Manager Cameron Thompson in the Russel Foster Youth League Premier Divison at U16’s level 2 years ago.
On signing jay, Thompson said;
“ It’s fantastic to have jay at the club. He’s always been a player I’ve admired and I’m excited to see his progress in a Washington shirt”
“ Jay is a very talented player, he’s direct, skilful and understands the tactical element to the game very well. At the age of 18, that’s quite some going, he’s got a lot of patience and is a very coachable young lad. He’s only going to get better and is going to be a huge success for the club in the upcoming seasons”
Unfortunately, due to the currently league rules in place. Jay won’t make his debut for the club until the 2021-22 campaign. But is training closely with the first team, maintaining match fitness with the Under 18’s and made is unofficial debut in a recent friendly game with Ryton and Crawcrook Albion.
On signing for Washington Jay said;
“ I feel great about joining Washington, they have a very good side and can’t wait to get started for them. It’s a shame I can’t play the rest of this season but I will be still training with the lads and be ready to get started next season”
“ As for moving forward with the team I feel I can play a big role, I’m only a young lad and still have a lot to learn and I feel that can be done here with this quality side”
“I’ve really enjoyed my first few sessions with Washington they have a great set of lads there I feel like I fit straight in, I just can’t wait for the start of next season so I can get going”
Jay is now Cameron Thompson’s second signing since returning as the management team continue to build and develop a squad for the upcoming season.
