Felling Magpies Blue

The Magpies lived up to the name

We went into our fifteenth game of the season against Felling Magpies Blue with our captain Fran missing this week due to covid. We tried something new this week with 3 changes which saw Josh starting in goal, Albie in defence and Seth in midfield. We started slow yet again this week and saw Felling put us under a little bit of pressure. We battled hard and made sure Felling couldn't break us down and create chances. After a few minutes we started to grow into the game and our passing started to improve. With the ball being played about in the middle of the park Felling tried a quick counter which saw a player use his hand to push the ball forward which the eagle eye referee saw and quickly blew for. With us just inside the opposition half Jackaldinho stood over the ball and went for goal. With an unbelievable strike the ball flew in to the top bin and put us 1-0 up on the 7th minute leaving the goalkeeper no chance. From here we controlled the game and started passing the ball about finding some good space. When we did loose possession we quickly won it back with some great pressure with only 1 player pressing an opponent at a time, a massive improvement from us instead of everybody chasing the ball. We made some positional changes on the 8th minute with Seth dropping back into defence and Albie moving up into midfield. This worked well with nobody being able to get past Seth today as he was too strong and was always in the right defensive position. Albie also looked better in midfield with him now having more freedom to run around and get tackles in which he loves to do. On the 14th minute Jackaldinho picked the ball up again and with his fast feet and trickery the opposition threw 3 players at him which we skinned all 3 before squaring the ball for Jaxon to fire in to an empty net. At half time we went in 2-0 up but completely controlling the game.

For the second half we made a few changes with Josh moving into defence and Albie going in goal, we also brought Shay and Blake off the bench. We started the second half as we left the first with us being the better stronger team. Within 1 minute we had a chance which just went wide giving Felling a goal kick. With the keeper passing it out Jaxon sprinted in to apply pressure and when a stray pass went to him he smashed it goal ward first time. With this being hit in the sweet spot the ball took off like a rocket and Felling quickly saw themselves 3-0 down, if this is how Jaxon strikes a ball in his trainers we hope Kieron forgets his boots next week too. Felling kicked back off and kept going and tried to break us down but we were too strong today in all areas. On the 23rd minute Jackaldinho picked the ball up on the wing before getting past 2 players he opened his body up and went for the far corner, he was extremely unlucky not to find the net himself only to be denied by the post. With Blake quickly running in to finish this off mass panic occurred and Felling put the ball in their own net. On the 24th minute Josh won the ball back from a Felling attack which he then carried well before playing Blake in with a through ball. With Blake running after this the keeper also started running out to make it. With both players getting to the ball the same time the keeper went to pick the ball up and Blake went in for a sliding tackle. With Blake just getting there first he won the ball cleanly before finishing it off and putting us 5-0 up.

Last week i said it was the best we have played but today we topped that. Our passing was excellent today and it was easily the best we passed about in a game. We stuck to positions today too and when we didn't have possession we didn't all chase the ball but instead watched as one person would go to the ball with the others marking up. Another clean sheet too today for Mr safe hands with him showing his versatility playing in 3 different positions and not looking out of place in any of them. Josh often picked the ball up at the back today and every time he did instead of either kicking it out or getting rid by putting his foot through the ball he got his head up and played some fantastic passes helping us set up attacks and keeping possession of the ball. Shay also looked so much more confident today with him getting stuck in and having some great attacking runs at defenders. If we had some quicker passes upfront instead of holding on to the ball for a tad too long Shay would of got a goal today as he often found himself upfront in perfect positions only for us not to utilise this. This was a near perfect performance today with us looking dangerous on attacks and solid at the back. Player of the match was a close one between Jack and Jaxon. Jaxon was unbelievable today on his return from a few weeks off and was excellent all round. Jack just beat him to it today after setting 2 goals up and scoring one with his all round play being too good for Felling. We go again next week and hopefully take everything we done today into the match and improve on it, if we do this i know we will win!
